Global Challenge with aggressive-stance quality assurance
Kenichi KatahiraQuality Assurance Department
Manager

I joined AeroEdge in April, 2016. I was interested in Manufacturing, especially in the field of aerospace. So before coming to AeroEdge, I was in charge of production engineering and quality control at a local manufacturer for aircraft engine parts (turbine blades and compressor blades, etc.) While making use of manufacturing concepts I learned in my previous job, I’m working on my tasks with the words of AeroEdge’s management philosophy, “independence” and “creativity” in mind.

CHAPTER 01

Job Description

Job Description

The Quality Assurance Department implements appearance inspection by sight, and size inspection with the 3-D measuring device/apparatus, the surface roughness tester, and the shape measuring instrument as the work that we directly engage in our products. Additionally, we conduct fluorescent penetrant inspection by opening the product's surface in order to inspect defects that are hard to detect by sight and X-ray radiographic inspection by irradiating products and transmitting the inside of it as a special processes.
As our indirect task, we implement non-conforming treatment when nonconformity is detected in products, change management when there is a change in manufacturing process, customer service regarding those things, administration of measuring instruments (measuring instruments for general purposes and measuring equipment), summarizing quality aspects, and internal deployment.

Attractiveness to work with AeroEdge

Attractiveness to work with AeroEdge

I think to "Create One from Zero" in our mission statement is never easy. It is impossible to achieve in creating value (one) from nothing (zero) without making remarkable efforts. To make it a reality, we have to open a path by ourselves. I think it's very attractive to be able to rapidly find the latest technology and processes, and then actively try them.
Also, the fact that I'm involved in the aircraft business in this growing industry, and the fact our products are installed in jet engines which fly in the sky of the world are rewarding and attractive of course.

The thought that counts

The thought that counts

Quality is created through the process (to say more, during preparation of instructions before processing). For example, at the point of setting products in the machine, or pressing the start button of the machine, I think the quality of a product is already determined.
As the Quality Assurance Department, we are not just checking the acceptability of products, but we'd like to engage in aggressive Quality Assurance so we can lead the company's mass production by communicating actively with other related divisions, or with customers when in need.
Also, we hope our product will never cause an aviation accident, and we would like our customer to say "I want these products because they were made by AeroEdge."

I had no experience in my current job because I previously worked at a banking institution. But I am working hard every day, making use of my 10-year career. I have two children now, so I'm always trying to use my limited time effectively. Working makes me feel refreshed, and it gives a good effect on my child-rearing. I enjoy both working and child-rearing in good balance.

I've always enjoyed making things by hand. When I was a small child, I often built plastic models. When I grew up, I got interested in automobiles and aircrafts, and was hoping to get a manufacturing job in which I can deal with those.
In my previous job, I experienced a wide variety of work from machining center, grinding, production administration of sample parts, engineering, and sales. Among those experiences, the concept of manufacturing I learned there is now leveraged in my current job as a production engineer for turbine blades mass production.
