AeroEdge Co., Ltd. (Ashikaga, TOCHIGI JAPAN, CEO Jun Morinishi)concluded the memorandum of understanding with Plastometrex Ltd. (Cambridge, UK)and Kobe Material Testing Laboratory Co., Ltd. (KMTL) (Kakogun, HYOGO JAPAN) to promote a new method to evaluate materials for the Japanese additive manufacturing (AM) field.
Plastometrex Ltd. are world leaders in obtaining stress-strain curves non-destructively, and in providing fast and insightful mechanical testing solutions. Established by former University of Cambridge scientists, Plastometrex combines deep expertise in materials science with advanced numerical modelling, optimisation methods, and machine learning tools to create next-generation materials testing solutions. Plastometrex testing solutions are based on an underlying platform technology called PIP testing (Profilometry-based Indentation Plastometry). The technique enables full stress-strain curves and metal strength parameters to be obtained from a single indentation test in just a few minutes.
KMTL is Japan’s largest independent third-party testing laboratory with a rich history spanning over 70 years. With expertise in materials testing, chemical analysis, and specialized specimen manufacturing, KMTL has established itself as a reputable name in the industry. Combining three successful group companies, Kobe Material Testing Laboratory, Co., Ltd., Minatogawa Kinzoku Test Piece Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and Tsurui Chemical, Co., Ltd., KMTL has evolved into a comprehensive testing, research, and analysis laboratory. Throughout the years, KMTL has played a crucial role in supporting Japan’s core industries, including aerospace, energy, automobile, and life sciences.
AeroEdge is promoting new value creation in manufacturing through our R&D work in the AM field. Through this collaboration, we aim to introduce the unique PIP testing method developed by Plastometrex to the Japanese market, with the support of KMTL’s deep understanding and rich experience in materials testing and AeroEdge’s industry knowledge and technical expertise in AM. The goal of this collaboration is to contribute to the expansion of AM, a relatively new process, which requires innovative evaluation method, such as PIP testing, to grow. AeroEdge will initially facilitate this activity for the next three years, to help to introduce the Japanese market to the benefits of this method
